The use of IOT: internet of things and digital innovation in the travel industry

What is IOT: internet of things?

IOT is anything that is involved or can be connected with the internet. Devices that are connected with IOT include I- phone, Android, smart cars, smart fridge, and other smart device.

There are two main functions of IOT, one is collecting data from the internet and the other is integrating with technology.

IOT devices respond by movement and senses of touch, sight, Bluetooth and voice control

Device picks up on command and sensors, then translate that sensors. The device detects change in environment, measures movement, temperature, pressure that transforms to energy.

Sensors can also be alarms in the car, the car picks up on the sensors if it is about to crash, therefore the car will action and dose something to pick up on the signals

The use of IOT in travel industry:

Air Asia aeroplane: utilise with artificial intelligence AL and IOT, the technology to reduce cost. The sensors use monitor aircraft engine, because dirty engines burn up more fuel, so they have sensors that pick up from that and the company arranges regular clean-up and maintenance. The solution to this problem is that there are less flights delay and less technical issues, the good thing is that is doesn’t affect the price.

Boeing: there are 70-80 sensors and there are 6 main sensors, pressure, position, force, temperature, vibration and radar. Not all aeroplanes have this impact or sensors. However sometimes technicians are not trained to fix the sensors, now they have to train the technician on using new technology or they have to develop better sensors in the plane.

IOT baggage tracking: tracked with a small device. 1% of bags are lost in airports but it still causes lots of stress for the customers. So a small device, baggage tracker can be placed into the luggage to analyse data and track the bag. The tracker which is being placed into the luggage is requested into the airport computer system. When a person comes to the lost luggage counter to report a lost luggage, then it is searched by the tracker. The tracker can also be setup by the app if customers wish.

IOT in hotels: IOT helps with daily duties in the hotel weather it is a small hotel or a large hotel. It demands personal device and increase levels of personalized service, as hotel staff aim to provide service resulting in memorable stay. As well as reducing additional cost that will result in evolving communication and access needs. IOT is being implemented to improve guest experience. Without IOT hotel operate to save energy and cost on robots. Housekeeping and improving experience through room automation and personalized that is powerful change to hospitably that grows.

Hotels need to create environment that allows staff to operate easily and safely to provide personalized guess experience. IOT device requires high performance internet and network connection. It also needs lots of access to data.

Other enhancement:

Airbus: the bathroom has sensors to see how many people use the toilet while on the airbus.

Hilton hotel: has a system that alerts system, The computer when people are in the room, their sensors turn off lights when there are no one in the room after a long period of time.

Cruise industry: there are thinking of putting sensors just like the hotels.

In short the internet of things (IOT) is the future on the travel industry and the future for newer generation. It is a short cut to life and a lot of the technology involved is the future of easy ongoing, to make life easer.
