The Power of Perseverance

A boy's determination turns failure into success.

By Hizb UllahPublished 9 months ago 3 min read

There was a boy named Bilal who lived in a small village with hills and rivers around it. He was a cheerful boy with a smiling face and a kind heart. Bilal's family was poor but he was rich in dreams. He had one wish more than anything else: to learn how to read and write properly. His school was very far from his village, and he had to walk a distance of several kilometers each day just to go to his classes.

Bilal was not the brightest student in his class. In fact, he had difficulties with his schoolwork, particularly mathematics. He tried his best, but no matter what he did, he would fail miserably in his exams. His classmates would even mock him at times, referring to him as slow and hopeless. Their teasing hurt, but Bilal never lost hope.

One night, after getting yet another bad result, Bilal returned home crying. His mother noticed him crying and sat down next to him. "Bilal," she said softly, "failure is not the end. It is a lesson. As long as you keep trying, you can never really fail."

He took his mother's advice to heart and changed his attitude. Bilal woke up early in the morning and went to bed late at night, solving math problems and reading storybooks. He also asked his teachers more questions and even assisted his classmates with their homework, which made him better understand things.

Months went by, and gradually, Bilal's persistence began to bear fruit. His grades improved, and he gained confidence. At the end of the school year, he was no longer near the bottom of the class. In fact, he surprised everyone by being awarded the school's "Most Improved Student" award.

But Bilal didn't rest there. His next goal was to participate in the quiz competition held once a year by the village, where students of various schools contested general knowledge, mathematics, and science. Nobody said it could be done; it was impossible, but Bilal persisted.

He spent the whole summer preparing for the quiz. He studied books, solved questions, and even tuned in to the news to get updated. His friends appreciated his hard work and started to have more respect for him. Even his classmates, who had earlier mocked him, now asked him to assist them in their studies.

The day had come. Bilal nervously stood on stage with his team, waiting to face the students from larger and more superior schools. The questions were challenging, and the competition was stiff. But Bilal remained confident and recalled all that he had learned. Question after question, his team and he confidently replied.

When the results came out, everybody was surprised. Bilal's group had topped the list! The whole village celebrated, and Bilal became an overnight hero. His teachers and parents were overjoyed with him, and his achievement inspired other villagers' students to follow in his footsteps.

Bilal gained a valuable lesson that day: success is not overnight, and it's not even only about talent. It's about persistence, determination, and the willingness to continue even when it gets difficult.

Years went by, and Bilal became a teacher himself. He never forgot about his life story and informed his students, "Never fear failure. It is not the end it's just the beginning of success if you do not lose heart."

Moral Of The Story:

Perseverance and hard work can make failure into success. Never lose heart, no matter how tough the path appears to be.
