AA and AAA Batteries or Cells Basic Difference

In this day and age in any electronics wireless gadgets batteries or cells are the crucial sources of power, but there are many varieties of them in size, shape and other quality dimensions, like tiny size cells, are used in the watch and large size batteries are used in cars. Here in this tutorial, we discuss briefly various types of batteries, Cells, and their classifications (AA and AAA).

Before diving into the AA and AAA batteries and cells let’s see the basic difference between a battery and a cell. And we would also see why we need a battery and cell for power.

Cells

A cell unit system that transforms chemical energy into electric energy. Cells are the source of energy that can be used in two states first when there is a need for small quantities of current and second if Direct Voltage or current (DC) is required. For instance, the watches you use, remotes for TV’s and LCD all have Cells power.

Cells need only short voltage and current to perform their functions usually the range is 1.5 – 3V and it must be DC. The most common cells are Dry Cell, Wet Cell, Reserve Cell, and Fuel Cell. They are used in clocks, lamps, remote control devices, etc.

Battery

A battery also transforms chemical energy into electrical energy. Typically, the battery consists of a group of cells. It is the array of electrochemical cells that are either linked in series or parallel. They are used in automobiles, inverters, emergency lights,s, etc. They are much costly than the cells

AA Batteries

It’s also called double a battery or in French, it’s called Mignon, which means “dainty. These are standard single cell or dry cell batteries. They are called dry cells because they have only the right level of moisture to allow the current to flow through. This type of battery typically produces electricity at about 1.5 volts. The shape of their batteries is cylindrical like the cells which are used in TV remote and its length is about 1.9 inches and 0.53 – 0.57 inches in diameter. They are bigger than the AAA batteries and more capacity.

AAA Batteries

They are also called Triple A batteries. The exactly supply the same voltage as AA batteries, which is about 1.5 volts of electricity. But there is some variation in other dimensions like sizes, usage, and endurance in power supply, and some others. I Will explain it all in the next heading of this article.

In size, AAA batteries are wider and longer. As they are thicker, AA batteries last-longer in terms of the power supply when matched with AAA batteries. AA batteries are mostly used for larger toys and home appliances, while AAA batteries are used for smaller, more compact appliances.

Difference Between AA and AAA batteries

In the above section we just mentioned the little difference between AA and AAA batteries here, I will explain each difference with an explanation on a comparison basis.

1. Size and Voltage

While both AA and AAA batteries provide the same amount of voltage to the device or person who uses them, the most important difference is how these batteries deliver the voltage. Obviously, the size of the batteries is different too. The AA battery can be seen longer than the AAA battery.

The AA battery is also much larger than the AAA, making it difficult to use it in some electronically driven products. The AA battery provides a considerably more powerful current than the AAA.

As the size difference between the two types of battery, an AAA battery holds a much smaller amount of current than AA. The bigger the device, machine, gadgets you are using the larger battery you are going to need.

The AA and AAA batteries provide the same voltage as the larger batteries, such as the D type. This is because they're all a single cell. To come up with the higher voltage, 9-volt batteries use six cells in a row. The smaller size of the AAA batteries means that there is a lower percentage of electrochemical material that contains that electrical charge. Since that translates directly into a smaller charge in a AAA battery.

2. Consumer Use

There are some usage differences also like when to use AA and when to use AAA, and in which appliance or equipment. This question may be very essential for these two batteries. The use of AA and AAA batteries also varies, the problem here is that there are no set guidelines for when to use one over the other. But you are more likely to see machines or devices that consume a lot of electricity than you have to use AA batteries.

But the questions arise here what are some high consumption devices, they are battery-operated toys and small electric torches visually we think these devices must have fewer consumptions but it’s not. Low-power or compact gadgets that do not use too much power are also used with AAA batteries. Clocks and remote controls are excellent examples of devices that do not need regular battery replacements. SO

3. AAA Battery Use Vs AA Battery Uses

An AAA battery is intended for use in simpler items, usually compact, products that need much less power. It will typically need AAA batteries for an alarm clock or remote control.

AA batteries, on the other hand, prefer to be found in higher-powered devices that need a lot of currents. Such batteries are being intended for use in high-powered items such as electrical flashlights and children's toys.

4. Electricity Supply

The more charges flow through the conductor the more current it will pass, for instance, copper is more conductor than iron, meaning that in copper the flow of electron/charges is higher than iron. So the Currents are measured by the way electricity can flow through the chosen conductor.

The best comparison that can be made for the uninitiated is the ability of a pipe to allow a large amount of water to flow through it. If the current is large, this means that the battery will need to allow a large amount of electricity to flow.

Electricity for AA

The bigger the device, the more electricity it would need to achieve at its best. That's why AA is the battery of choice for those in need of electricity for their big-ticket products.

Electricity for AAA

On the other hand, the AAA will typically be selected by a person who requires a smaller battery to provide current for a small item.
