Seeing Leadership with C

Do you know, we can comprehend complete leadership traits by tagging letter C, So the big deal here is about creating strong affirmations. However why leadership is necessary and why it is called daughter of necessity?

For ages, leadership is the bedrock of all human accomplishments. Many think that leadership is a gifted inherent quality possessed by rare individuals. In reality, leadership isn't an inherent quality but a necessity. Ordinary people when driven by extraordinary vision , purpose and adversity start exhibiting traits that will influence, inspire and lead others collectively called Leadership.

In my opinion, a leader should possess 5’Cs as significant qualities

Conduct

Conduct means how a person behaves in a particular situation. The conduct is a summation of habits . Habits are the continuous practice of activities.Right activity at a right time create right habits. Right habits create right conduct. Buddhism in its 8 fold paths theory emphasise right conduct. Mahatma Gandhi’s anti-alcohol campaign illustrates one can be free from others only when he achieves freedom from his ill conduct.

Communication

Communication is the effective exchange of information. An individual cannot be called a leader without followers, followers support their leader only by understanding him and trusting him. Clarity of communication of leader creates better understanding, better understanding creates better trust. No leadership exists without trust. For instance, Steve Jobs' vision of converting Steve Woznick's project into personal computers is an illustration of transforming vision into reality through communication.

Commitment

Commitment is what makes you face adversity and challenges over and again. Commitment ignites pro-action and gains hope and faith in people. Martin Luther King,'s commitment to nonviolent protests and civil rights for all is shown in a famous letter from a King highlighting his philosophy of nonviolence in Birmingham Alabama jail 1963. In the movie, The Shawshank redemption to commitment the character Andy Dufresne displays underpins commitment as light at the end of the tunnel.

Character

The character can be called a predecessor of conduct. A group of morals and distinct mental qualities defines a character. Good character commands respect, trust, sense of identity. Being nice does not imply building good character. Building good character is about the right understanding of righteousness. As beautifully quoted by India's former president Dr A.P.J Abdul Kalam, "Where there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character. When there is beauty in the character, there is harmony in the home. When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation. When there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world.” Lord Shree Ram is highly worshipped in India because of his virtue and character. He is also referred to as "Maryada Purushottama" which means the "man of honour ".

Connection

Connection refers to the number of people who know who can add value to your deeds. The connection has two aspects of the first connection of leaders among followers demonstrating leaders ability to influence them. The second leader's connection with other leaders speaks about tactical diplomacy. Sardar valuable Patel was a well-connected leader among the people of India, his connectivity and bonding helped in achieving India's unification. For ages, until now whether it's a nation or a business it is the networking or connectivity that thrive as a dark horse in the long run.

So to conclude, leadership is an art of inspiring without inspiring and a leader knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. Leadership is a huge subject in itself, many professional degrees from reputed universities are offered on leadership to cater expertise and bridge technical gaps. However, it is my small effort to simply leadership and defines in 5 Cs.
