It was supposed to be the next Facebook

Do you remember Linda Ikeji Social – LIS for short? Wow, how time flies! It was in 2016 when popular Nigerian blogger Linda Ikeji launched her site, Linda Ikeji Social.

According to the blogger, she got the idea of the site because many of her users had told her that they visit only 2 sites on the internet primarily – Facebook and her blog. So, the idea was sparked in Linda’s head – what if we combine both Facebook and my blog and make it into one website, thus Linda Ikeji Social was born.

Many people logged on to the site and created an account, myself included! According to reports, 24 hours after its launch, almost 50,000 users created accounts on Linda Ikeji Social. Over 6 days, that number grew to over 86,000.

What happened? There was so much promise, so much talk. Linda did everything from video campaigns for the site to even actually PAYING users on the site and to use the site. Still, all of that couldn’t work.

Today, we’re breaking down the real truth about what really happened to Linda Ikeji Social as well as what Linda herself has to say about the site’s failure.

While there are many reasons people believe Linda Ikeji Social failed so badly:

- Some people believe that the name wasn’t good as it didn’t allow room for growth outside of Nigeria and people who know Linda Ikeji.

- Some people felt there was no need for the website as we already had other social media sites like Facebook that were meeting our needs.

The REAL reason why Linda Ikeji Social was a total and complete failure was because the people who were hired to make the site were TERRIBLE at their job.

I mean, sometime in 2018, the site literally got hacked!

The whole website was a huge and total failure in terms of design. I remember even during my time using it, to upload pictures or set up account was such a problem. The site had speed issues, functionality problems, it was a mess!

Looking back and speaking on Linda Ikeji Social, founder and blogger Linda Ikeji speaking with Business Insider talked about the failure and the lessons she learnt from it.

She said:

I did something called LIS (Linda Ikeji Social) and it was a mess because people that made it did a poor job. They were mediocre. They promised me heaven and earth but could not deliver. If they had done better, LIS would have thrived. I completely stopped promoting it. If I had continued, people would have still come no matter how bad it was. But I just had to stop because I couldn’t upload pictures, I couldn’t upload videos. What then was the essence? It just turned me off. That was not my dream and I was struggling to accept it. I was always fighting with them to get it done. They would request for more money. After a while, I said, “You know what? Whatever.”

So when I was doing LITV, I said I wasn’t going to make the same mistakes, I need the best hands. LITV is on a bigger scale than LIS, and will eventually be bigger than LIB. I needed the right people to do it. I didn’t want anyone to mess this up, I didn’t want anyone to mess up this dream. LIS was my dream and they messed it up.

So sad!

Oh, and by the way if you're wondering if Linda Ikeji Social is still up and running - it's not! When you go to the site now, you're met with this:

I guess, the Linda Ikeji Social dream is completely OVER.

Well, at least she’s learnt her lesson from that colossal failure. Hopefully she actually applies these lessons in future ventures because I’m not hearing anything too about her music business or TV subscription service. Either way, Linda Ikeji Blog is still flourishing and paying her bills so she should stick to that until she has all her ducks in a row for whatever next venture she might enter.

That’s All.
