“I don’t know how to use Facebook to drive traffic to my blog,” I asked my senior.

I was working for a startup as a content writer. Past one month, I was looking for ways to drive traffic to my blog through social media.

Out of them, I found Facebook to be my first choice. Obviously, Facebook has billions of monthly active users. So I thought it might help me to generate traffic. But I failed miserably.

I have a Facebook page, with 1,600 followers, for my blog. For every post I published on my blog, I shared the link on my page. But no one responded. Facebook’s organic reach was dead. I didn’t want to run an ad campaign to boost my reach. My pocket was light-weighted. I relied on organic reach but guess what, it proved me wrong.

At the startup where I worked, there was my senior, a digital marketing expert. One day, I saw him generating leads for his client without running any ads.

He gained maximum exposure through the organic search he can get for his posts. He even converted those leads into customers for his client. I was astonished. I wondered how he did that.

“How did you boost your organic reach without any ads,” I asked him.

“I am trying this for one month but I guess Facebook has no organic reach,” I added.

Then he went on to tell me the whole process of how he generated leads for his client and how exactly I can drive traffic to my blog by following the same step.

To this day, his advice works. It helped my blog to receive initial exposure that I wanted to kickstart my journey.

Here’s what he told me.

Join as many groups as you can

One place where people are more active than pages is Facebook groups. Look for any Facebook groups relevant to your niche and join them. Join as many as you can.

Some require approval from admin while some can give you instant access. Once you are into at least 20 groups, move on to the next step.

Share first on your page, then on groups

A Facebook page serves as an image for your brand. Once you have a Facebook page, people start recognizing your brand.

When you re-share links from your page on groups, you hit two targets with one arrow. First, you drive traffic to your blog, and second, your page followers increase. If you don’t have a Facebook page yet, create one.

Once you publish a post on your blog, share it on your page with proper caption. Then re-share it on as many groups as you can. The more you can share, the more traffic you will drive.

Post photos related to your blog

My senior always posted photos on the client’s Facebook page and then re-shared them on groups. It worked in keeping the page’s followers and newcomers engaged. The same method helped my page to gain new followers.

I used Adobe Photoshop to design photos for my page. It worked like charm. My page received lots of comments and engagements. My followers increased and so did the traffic.

I know Adobe Photoshop can be difficult to learn for beginners. If you aren’t familiar with it, you can try Photopea, an online photo editor (that my senior used) or you can go for Canva.

Once you are done with photos, share them on your page and groups. At least 3–4 photos posted on a weekly basis is enough. Perform this every week and you will see your traffic and followers rising.

Results

When I shared my articles on the Facebook page only, here’s what happened:

Notice on February 25, I received more traffic from social media.

Day by day, my blog traffic increased. Now I generate over 10,000 monthly organic traffic for my blog. Facebook definitely helped my blog to gain initial exposure. People started recognizing it. Within a month, my blog was free from training wheels. It didn’t require any boost. Organic traffic was enough for me.

Similarly, you can follow the same step to shoot up your blog in the air.

Facebook’s organic reach is dead. You won’t get anything if you relied solely on it. Just posting and waiting for people to see your content is not enough. You have to push it from your side too.

Initially, you can use social media to gain as much traffic as you can. Once you start getting exposure from organic search, you can ask them to like and follow your page. It will help you to get social traffic without re-sharing it on groups.
