From Darkness to Light: A Story of Career Transformation

The Write Way: My Path to Becoming an Author

By AshPublished 3 years ago 4 min read

Being a writer can be a daunting and challenging career to pursue, requiring an immense amount of hard work and creativity to craft a piece of art that captivates readers and transports them into the magical world of human imagination. Despite my love for writing since childhood, I have always considered it a mere hobby and remain uncertain whether I will ever achieve success as a writer. Nevertheless, I am currently enrolled in a creative writing course to pursue this passion and develop my skills. My journey towards becoming a writer was not something I initially considered, but I have since completed one book and have three more in the series underway. In this piece, I will share the story of what inspired me to pursue this path through many factors and impacted my life.

In the past few years, I have felt lost and unsure of the direction my life was taking. High school was a daunting experience for me, and I struggled to achieve the results I wanted. As a result, my future seemed bleak, and it felt like there was no light at the end of the tunnel. However, during the hot summer of 2021, I found solace in my online friends from a software game called "Habboon." While Habboon could be a haven, it could also be toxic if one found themselves on the wrong side of it. Nonetheless, I enjoyed roleplaying and creating characters with strong connections, just like my friend who adored her Banshee character named 'Aella' in the Myth roleplay. Myth had become an integral part of our lives, imbuing joy and purpose into an otherwise uncertain time. Our characters not only served as a form of escapism but also acted as our therapists. As Dr. Seuss once said, "Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living. It's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope, which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities." This famous quote encourages us to step outside of our comfort zone and view the world from a different perspective, to understand how others perceive life's challenges, and to see problems from an alternative point of view. Many roleplayers have used this approach to help their characters overcome personal struggles, and I too have found it to be an effective tool in navigating my own challenges.

Myth roleplay provided a haven for creative writers, and I was fortunate enough to become a part of its community. This environment allowed me to freely explore my creative potential by collaborating with other roleplayers to craft a captivating story. Despite the community's occasional setbacks, I remained devoted to it for three years, experimenting with various characters. One of my most beloved creations was Jack Bowen, an alchemist whose story took an unexpected turn when he was forced to defend himself and his friends against a man who attacked them. This incident led to the development of a compelling subplot, which challenged me to explore Jack's character in new ways. Although crafting a storyline can be a daunting process, I found it immensely enjoyable to envision the possibilities of what could happen and then bring those ideas to life. Through my experiences with Myth roleplay, it helped me to developed new skills and discovered my passion for writing and storytelling, and I am excited to share my work with readers worldwide.

After months of careful planning, I've crafted a thrilling tale of Jack and his friends who hunt the paranormal, but when they delve deeper into one of their cases, they find themselves in grave danger. The root of this peril can be traced back to the realm of Myth, which served as a major source of inspiration for my story. Drawing upon my experience in the Myth community, where I once engaged in roleplaying, I was able to incorporate its rich lore and world-building elements into my writing. However, with the gradual decline of Myth, a part of me felt lost, as though a piece of my soul had been torn away. While I acknowledge that the community became increasingly toxic and mired in drama, I'm grateful to have retained a few friends who lent their support and guidance throughout my writing process. Without them, I'm unsure where my path might have led me - perhaps into obscurity, or perhaps not.

As I write to you today, I am proud to announce that I have completed the first book in my series. I am grateful for the recognition I have received from my teachers and friends, who have been a source of inspiration and encouragement for my career as a writer. My goal is to not only achieve success but also to inspire others to pursue their passion for writing, no matter how simple the means. I believe that writing is a skill that everyone can develop, and I want to convey the message that it is never too late to pursue your dreams. It is essential to keep searching for something that interests you, regardless of your age, and never give up on your goals.
