The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu on Thursday extended support to the two-day nationwide strike later this month, called for by various trade unions against the Centre's policies.

DMK General Secretary and state Minister for Water Resources Duraimurugan said various trade unions including the party-backed Labour Progressive Federation (LPF) had met DMK President and Chief Minister M K Stalin and requested for support to the strike, slated for March 28 and 29.

In a party release, Duraimurugan said "every action taken by the Central BJP and its policies not only impede states' rights but also that of workers' welfare." The DMK will extend its total support to the strike, he said and asked party workers and others to involve themselves in the protest and make it a grand success. Director Vivek Agnihotri's 'The Kashmir Files' is a film aimed at inciting hatred against the Muslims by "unilaterally displaying half-truths and unsubstantiated fabrications," Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) chief K S Alagiri, claimed on Thursday.

The film was produced and released to "cover up and divert the injustice done to the people of Kashmir" and to distort the unsubstantiated slanderous allegations that the Pandits who lived like brothers and sisters with the Muslims in that state were tortured, he alleged.

"Through this film, the BJP aims to incite religious hatred and also seek political gains by disrupting religious harmony," Alagiri claimed in a statement here. (PTI)Recalling his November 2021 letter addressed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting to designate Chennai as an embarkation point for Haj 2022, the Chief Minister said every year over 4,000 Haj pilgrims from Tamil Nadu proceed on the pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia from Chennai.

During Haj 2019, more than 4,500 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands undertook the Haj from Chennai.
