Discord is a widely known platform across the globe. The more advanced replacement for Skype has grown phenomenally ever since it was first released. As more and more people of different varieties and preferences join, it’s only natural some people would like to turn on the “do not disturb” function. But why?

What is the purpose of "Do not disturb" on discord?

What is the purpose of the option to not be disturbed? Given the plain sight context of the name itself, you can certainly guess what the function means. The option “do not disturb” that discord gives you was made for those who prefer not to receive notifications. On both mobile and desktop, you will not be pestered with constant pings being sent your way or alerts that notify you of a message.

How to activate the "Don't Disturb" option in Discord?

Let’s say you would like to silence your notifications before you go insane with the increasing amounts of alerts you’re getting. Not to worry, it’s easy to activate. Although Discord has a unique and different setup than most apps, don’t get intimidated. A few steps will solve all your problems.

First, you should find where your profile picture is located. It sits at the bottom left of your screen next to your server tab. Once you do find it, click it, and several options such as “Online” and “Idle” should appear. If you look a little further below, you’ll certainly find the status you’re looking for. Once activated, your profile picture will have a red icon attached to it. But don’t worry, you’ll still have full access to the platform even with this option on.

When to activate "Do not Disturb" on d iscord?

Have you ever noticed someone with the “Do not Disturb” feature on and ever wondered why? Usually, people do not appreciate being bombarded with notifications every minute of the day. On Discord, you’re able to join multiple servers and converse with other members of a group. However, this means you will be joining a public chatroom where lots of people could frequently use to message others. Every message that has been sent to a server, you receive a notification for it.

You could easily just mute the server, but that means you’ll still receive messages from another group you are in. You could also silence your notifications, but your notification bar will always be full. So where’s the solution in all of this? That’s where the “Do not disturb” status comes in. You’ll cease any alerts coming you’re way, including messages.

For many, this is their go-to feature as some people just don’t want to be disturbed, and it’s completely understandable. There is a downside to this, however, and we’ll be covering an easy solution for it.

Pros and cons of enabling the "Don't disturb" notification on discord

As said before, there are pros and cons to this feature. Pros being you get your peace and quiet, and con being it’s a bit too quiet. What we mean by this is that once someone activates the status to not be disturbed anymore, they mean it. All messages will not be received, regardless if it’s from a private direct or not. Maybe you just want to silence your servers instead of muting everything all at once. If that’s what you had in mind, we got your back.

To avoid muting all your notifications altogether, try silencing servers you don’t want to receive alerts for. This will help in the long run as for every server you’d rather not be bothered by, you can simply mute it and not miss any messages from your friends. Another thing you should do is if you’re in any servers you do not participate in anymore or are inactive in, you should probably leave and tone down your notifications by 50 percent. The use of muting things instead of blocking pings altogether is useful as well, especially since you can choose who you’d rather receive notifications from.

Conclusion

The next time you’re on discord and notice someone who has a red icon on their profile, you’ll know that it’s because they don’t wish to be disturbed. Don’t worry about ruining their peace if you want to send them a message, they won’t receive the notification anyways! All you have to do is patiently wait until they decide to hop on the platform again and check their notifications, then you can be sure they’ve seen what you sent them. And if they see it but don't respond, well, just give it some more time. You also won't know when they saw the message either so you can never be too sure.

In any case, We sure hope you’ve learned something today, and if you did, great! More knowledge for you.
