“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” -Steve Jobs

Of course I watched the Apple event live streamed to all Apple devices!

I decided to write this because I am rather excited and pleased with the products announced, in particular with the impressively thin design of the new iPhone Air and some new features in the Apple Watch and iPods. Here, I am only going to focus on the new iPhone Air because this is Apple’s first iPhone Air and it deserves to be the star of the show. Also, because this is my new favourite iPhone for my Apple wish list.

New iPhone Air - the world's thinnest iPhone yet

The new iPhone Air is the thinnest iPhone ever. It measures just 5.6mm thick and weighs 165 grams making it the world’s thinnest iPhone. It comes with a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR with a ProMotion display at 120Hz, it has 3,000 nits of peak brightness, Always-On support, and is eSIM only to accentuate its sleek design, provide seemless connectivity, flexibility, convenience, and better security.

According to Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, the new iPhone Air promises “ pro performance in a thin and light design.” Cook also said that the iPhone Air has the “most durable” design yet. It features a ceramic shield that encloses a titanium frame for durability on both front and back.

The impressive battery life lasts up to about 27 hours of video playback and it's extendable to about 40 hours using the new MagSafe battery accessory. The battery charges to 50% in only 30 minutes.

As per the camera setup, the iPhone Air has a powerful rear 48MP dual-fusion+12MP telephoto, front 18 MP with Centre Stage; it supports dual filming: front and back simultaneously, with a system that works like multiple advanced cameras in one.

The iPhone Air comes with Apple Intelligence, and live translation to automatically translate text in messages. It also gets live translated captions in FaceTime and spoken translations in the Phone app. Live translation is one of my favourites features since it becomes handy for travelling and other situations.

With great improvements in connectivity now the iPhone can send and receive messages through satellite from the Messages application. It also has Roadside Assistance via satellite connecting you with a roadside assistance provider who can send help to your exact location no matter where you are.

The iPhone Air is driven by the A19 Pro Chip; in addition, it comes with Apple's new wireless chip N1 for better performance and reliability supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread with a C1X modem, fast and secure connections with 5G and safety features.

Apple is using more recycle materials in its iPhones and Watches making them ideal for eco-conscious users. The iPhone Air uses 80% recycled titanium and 35% recycled materials by weight. It features a 3D-printed titanium USB-C port that uses 33% less material.

The iPhone Air’s accessory lineup includes a thin MagSafe battery pack for a long battery boost, translucent and bumper cases for those who want to encase their iPhone, and a crossbody strap crafted in TechWoven material.

The iPhone Air is available in Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold, and Sky Blue. The 256GB model starts at $999. Pre-orders start Friday and shipping begins 19 September.

Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup also includes iPhone 17 standard, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Max with focus on their cameras, processing speeds, additional storage capacity, and battery life.

As for me, I am totally in love with the new iPhone Air. Have a look:

I'm an Android person but this sure looks cool because of how thin it looks. And I love that it's using so much of recycled materials

  • There’s a lot to love about this new iPhone. A few that strike my interest are the 256GB, recycled materials, battery life, the crossbody strap, and most of all the Apple Intelligence live translation features. I want a new iPhone17 very much. But, I promised myself I would only replace my phones every three years. I’ve had my current iPhone just 2 1/2 weeks shy of one year. My previous phone was an android made by Nokia and I hated it. So I kept that phone for one year to the day - and even that was tough to do. I made an exception on my three year rule in that particular case.

I've got a long wishlist. Watch me add this one to it as if it would be a possibility lol. I am loving the specs you have detailed here. Ooo it's exciting to know the batter hours could be extended with their new MagSafe battery accessory. All they way up to 40hrs impressive. Sounds like the perfect phone for travellers. I applaud apple for using recycle materials. Gosh darn it. All the colours are great. I don't think I could make a choice. Informative and well presented. The video is also so satisfying to watch. Fantastic work, Susan 🤗❤️
