Based on a recent Twitter poll, Brian Chesky, CEO of Airbnb, suggested that the popular travel booking site could soon accept Bitcoin payments.

Chesky says users want Crypto

An increasing number of companies are making crypto payments available to customers. However, some companies are taking an unusual approach to adopting cryptocurrencies.

According to Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky, the payment feature for cryptocurrency bookings is the most requested feature in 2022.

"What would you introduce if Airbnb could launch something in 2022?" Chesky posted on Twitter over the weekend.

Two days later, he revealed the list of the top six suggestions out of about 4,000 received.

CEO's opinion on suggestions

Top recommendations include a clear price display, a loyalty program, up-to-date cleaning fees, more long-term stays and discounts, better customer service and "shopping (kitchens, coworking)". Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said the company is exploring commercial properties, saying:

“I am already working on most of them; I'll look at the others now "

According to a person who mentioned crypto payment, several countries prohibit remittances from overseas. As a result, he uses digital currency as a means of payment. "That's something we're looking at." Chesky said yes.

Airbnb operates an online marketplace in the travel industry. According to the company's website, there are already over 5.6 million posts worldwide. Since its inception in 2007, Airbnb has served over 1 billion guests, and over 4 million hosts have listed their properties on the platform.

Airbnb offers Visa, Mastercard, American Express and JCB as payment methods in most countries. Apple Pay, Google Pay and Paypal are also supported. Airbnb does not currently accept cryptocurrencies as a form of payment.

If popular demand is met, Airbnb will join other giants such as Tesla and AMC, among others, in accepting cryptocurrencies as a payment method.

Airbnb's main rival has already accepted cryptocurrency payments

While Airbnb is only now beginning to accept cryptocurrency payments, DTravel, a decentralized home-sharing platform, has done so in 2021.

The platform is integrated in Travala.com. It is managed by users who hold the DTravel token (TRVL), which is supported by Binance.

Customers can use cryptocurrencies to book 250,000 accommodations. The TRVL token can be used to book homes through a global network of 20,000 households. MEXC Global, Bybit, Gate and KuCoin are among the exchanges that list the TRVL token.

The company behind Airbnb has also been thinking about paying with cryptocurrencies for some time. "We've been following the space for a long time," said Chesky, adding that "the creator of Coinbase was an early employee of ours."

"Beyond the first euphoria, it's important that ordinary people understand how new technology has changed their lives," he said. "I was interested in a few applications that ordinary people could use to improve their daily lives."
