Now that the 2025 Oscar nominations have been announced, one of the year's major films has a strong showing. Wicked is in the running for a lot of accolades because it received ten nominations, including Best Picture. Even though it has already made $710 million (£576 million) at the box office worldwide, the Shiz University trophy case would look great with some awards season trophies.

Defying gravity, Wicked has successfully cleared the first hurdle and secured a place on the Academy's shortlist. Since Wicked is now well behind bookies' favorite The Brutalist, it's time to examine its rivals and the other nominations to determine whether it has what it takes to upset the odds and win the top prize at the 2025 Oscars.

Crucially, Wicked has also secured a handful of very important above-the-line nominations. Cynthia Erivo — who sits just an O short of an EGOT — was a surprise inclusion on the Best Actress shortlist, beating out the likes of Nicole Kidman (Babygirl), Angelina Jolie (Maria), Saoirse Ronan (The Outrun), and Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl). She joins co-star Ariana Grande, who is a major contender for Best Supporting Actress.
